The Knights of Columbus Council 10558 was established in 1991 at St. Augustin parish. The council welcomes all Catholic men who are over 18 and in good standing with the Church to join our council. Our Council is active in all programs of the Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus is founded on four Principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. ST AUGUSTIN ALTAR & ROSARY MINUTES JANUARY 5, 2012
Opening prayer was for the New Year Bands in attendance were 1,3,4,6,7,9,10,11,12 and President, Vice President,Treasurer, Secretary, Justine Power and Ann Pisarek. Bands 2, 5, 8, 13 & 14 were absent.
The December minutes were read and approved. Thank you notes for gifts received were read. The vials of candy to the Emeritus people were well received. At least 2 candle boxes (48) were needed and extra if giving to the office people. Making them after our December meeting was a good time to do it.
Treasurer’s Report: Checking $10,073.36 (Reserve Garwood & McLaughlin $6,755.) Savings $26,196.52 (Reserve $5,000 CD Life Members)
Greta gave her experience at Abercrombie & Fitch over the porno poster in the store at Jordan Creek. Suggested we complain to the company (hard to reach) and there is a group American Decency Assn. for complaints.
The horsd’oeuvres on December 8 after the 5:00 Mass was well received. There were 50 in attendance and lots of good food, wine, punch and camaraderie. Thanks to Lisa and Sandra who set it up. Sandra said she would file a report for our activity book.
Thanks to Lisa for the Christmas decoration arrangements for the church and thanks to those that showed up to help on the 19th. However, Saylee was in charge and had her crew. The wreaths and greens were fresh. Our red ribbons, amaryllis and sticks were ours. Does anyone know where the nativity set in the Chapel came from? A Richard Orr has donated the small containers of Frank, Incense and Myrrh which is a nice added touch.
Kelli gave a report on the Prolife Committee and what they are doing. They plan to give away CD’s of Abby Johnson’s talk. Also have plans for other speakers to come. It was moved and approved that we give $300. to help with their expenses. There is Rosary at 7:30 in the Chapel on Sundays by the Prolife Committee. Try to attend it.
It was moved and seconded that we send $100 to Conception Abbey for Perpetual Masses in remembrance of Fr. Polich. It was stated that we still need to give the Church $500 towards refurbishing the church windows. This was voted on in September.
There was discussion on what to do with the donations of Margo Garrity and Pat McLaughlin and for a memorial of Fr. Polich. Some thoughts were of help for decorating the rectory living room, additional cushions for the Church, help in refurbishing the church windows, hearing aids for the church etc. If you have a suggestion, please send it to Georgie and she will compile the list for the next meeting. Karen did receive a bid for cushions which seemed a little high. She will check with someone in northern Iowa and see what their bid is.
Suggested the St. Augustin note cards be sold as a fundraiser. Another one was to do gold cutout of our church and sell for Christmas ornaments. Karen was also going to look into having these items made. A thank you to Sandra and her Social Committee for the 400 shoe boxes given out and a reminder she can always use shoe boxes, wrapping paper and children items to put into them. Good time now while items are on sale.
Fr.Livingstone asked about a Thank You to Fr Lorenz for his past years of helping out at St. Augustin, possibly by a cheese, fruit & muffins after a 10:00 Mass on a Sunday. It was brought to mind that there was a reception for him when he retired. Robin will visit further with Fr about this.
LADIES NIGHT OUT: February 9th/ Bands 7 & 11 are responsible. Probably will do Bunko with everyone bringing a wrapped white elephant for prizes.
First Saturday recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 before Mass in the Chapel. Please try to attend and support this.
Next Board Meeting: Thursday Feb. 2nd at 11:30. Kyle Licktenburg from the Diocese will be here to talk about Church decorating. Meeting adjourned at 10:40 am Georgiana Hoerster, Secretary
