The Religious Education Assistant will work with our Director of Religious Education to prepare the CGS atria and teaching materials, as well as work with online registration, coordinating classes, and parish-to-parent communication. You will get a chance to help form the next generation of young Catholics as they prepare for the sacraments of 1st communion, reconciliation, and confirmation. This fulfilling role will also assist in planning special events for our students, as well as participating in key roles for larger parish events throughout the year.

The parish of St. Augustin is seeking a detailed-oriented, mission-drive individual with strong financial and organizational skills to fill the role of Business Manager. This person will oversee the administrative, financial and operational functions of our growing parish, including the business functions of accounting, finance, compliance, risk management and facilities, as well as acting as the HR liaison between staff, the diocese, and its contracted benefits agencies. The ideal candidate will be someone with demonstrated management experience and an educational background in business disciplines. Experience in church management is a plus but not required. The Business Manager’s primary focus is effectively facilitating Church ministries within a framework of management best practices, while remaining mindful of our Catholic values and social teaching. The position requires effective communication skills and a positive, proactive spirit of cooperation in all interactions with the Pastor, parish staff, and lay leadership. Primary Responsibilities AND FUNCTIONS Accounting:
Supervision of staff accountant and office manager.
Ensures the application of GAAP principles.
Reviews income and expense entries for proper codification.
Reviews all invoices before payment.
Reviews and approves payroll disbursements.
In the absence of the Pastor and with his approval, acts as primary signature on all parish accounts, contracts and agreements.
Finance:
Prepares annual parish budget and presents to parish leadership.
Schedules meetings and prepares agendas, minutes and presents monthly financial reports to finance council.
Manages the investment and use of parish reserves in conjunction with the diocesan foundation and other investment firms.
Tracks revenue streams and assures alignment with budget projections.
Tracks and manages expenses to ensure alignment with budget allowances.
Reviews legal documents and other binding agreements
Compliance:
Ensures adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures.
Provides guidance to Parish Leadership: Trustees, Finance Council, Parish Council, Buildings & Grounds/Safety committee on diocesan requirements.
Oversight of human resource functions such as hiring, termination, VIRTUS, driver’s training, etc. and communication of parish benefits programs to staff.
Along with Facilities Manager, ensures compliance with city codes and ordinances that affect construction of parish projects or events held outdoors.
Risk Management:
Primary responsibility for implementation of and adherence to diocesan and parish safety protocols.
Key liaison between parish and Catholic Mutual for annual inspection and required follow-up.
Shared responsibility with Facilities Manager and Office Manager for building door security, including access grants and programming doors for parish events.
Shares oversight with Facilities Manager as it pertains to mitigating trip or slip hazards.
Facilities:
Supervises two maintenance staff.
Key liaison between parish and diocesan director of buildings and grounds for major parish projects that require diocesan approval.
Visioning and development of parish capital improvement projects, major repairs, and maintenance.
Prepares RFQ’s and RFP’s for major parish projects and solicits quotes and proposals from accredited contractors and vendors.
Shared responsibility with Facilities Manager for project management.
Reviews contracts and purchasing proposals for major capital investments and long-term leases.
Along with Facilities Manager, provides oversight of technology infrastructure.
Assesses needs and contracts grounds care and snow removal for parish property.
Parish Leadership and Meetings:
Provides reports on parish activity to finance council, parish council and school board.
Events:
Assists with planning and logistics for four to five annual parish events.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
College degree in business-related field
Must be practicing Catholic in good standing.
5 or more years of non-profit management
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in Church Management
CPA, MBA, or CFA designation
The position requires conformity with the St. Augustin employee manual, guidelines of the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines concerning acceptance of the diocesan code of conduct, successful completion of background checks, and completion of VIRTUS training.
